Prozac



Prozac (Flouxetine) is an FDA-approved medication that can be used to treat conditions like: depression, anxiety disorders (panic attacks), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), bulimia, and severe form of premenstrual syndrome (premenstrual dysphoric disorder).

Directions for Intake:

  • Prozac is taken orally, as often as indicated in the prescription of your doctor

  • Finish the entire amount that was prescribed even after beginning to feel better

  • Take any missed dose as soon as it is remembered. However, do not double the dosage of your medication at any particular assigned time

Side Effects:

  • Mild side effects include nausea, headache, trouble sleeping, dry mouth, drowsiness, sweating, and upset stomach

  • Serious side effects include loss of appetite, unusual weight loss, unusual or severe mental/mood changes, uncontrolled movements (tremor), decreased interest in sex, and flu-like symptoms (e.g., chills, fever, muscle aches, weakness)

  • Unlikely but serious side effects include vision changes, trouble swallowing, swelling or white spots on the mouth and/or tongue, changes in sexual ability, and painful and/or prolonged erection

  • Highly unlikely but very serious side effects include fainting and irregular/fast heartbeat

Precautions:

  • Seek the approval of doctors before taking Prozac. Some medical conditions and past ailments may hinder certain individuals from using this drug.

  • Inform your physician of any previous or present experience of having liver problems, kidney disease, seizures, heart problems, diabetes, and allergies to medication

  • This medication may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Activities that require you to be alert (i.e. driving or operating heavy machineries) should be avoided

  • Liquid preparations of Prozac may contain sugar and/or small amounts of alcohol

  • Elderly patients may be more sensitive to the effects of this medication

  • If you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant, consult your doctor before taking Prozac

  • If you are lactating, it may be harmful to use Prozac

  • In case of overdosing, seek medical attention immediately

  • Prozac may cause allergic reactions that may cause breathing difficulties, swelling of the lips, closing of the throat, hives, and many more.
